* The Amazing Power of Chant
Chanting opens our energy centers (chakras), especially the heart center, the seat of love, affecting us on many levels, allowing healing to occur. Sound is vibration and every sound has its own frequency. A sound’s frequency can be low and course or high and refined. Words are symbols for sounds that convey conscious and unconscious meaning. When we chant a sound or word repeatedly, we take on the meaning and vibration of that sound or word. Harmonizing ourselves with the vibration of a particular word or sound through chant brings about a corresponding effect within us.

* Beijing Trials Car Reduction Plan to Reduce Smog for Olympics
Beijing is noticeably less congested following the start of a four-day scheme to take 1.3 million vehicles off the road. Officials hope to repeat the test next year during the Olympics to reduce traffic on the capital's jammed roads. They also hope to ease the notorious air pollution, which can reduce visibility to a few hundred metres. Officials expected the ban would cut vehicle emissions by 40%, although thick smog hung over Beijing on Friday (Aug. 17, 2007). During the current test period, cars with registration plates ending in odd and even numbers will each be banned from the roads for two days.

Solar-To-Hydrogen Technology Sold For $400 Million Euro
The maker of a solar powered 'water cracker' - a technology that releases hydrogen from a water molecule, has pre-sold the technology to a large European energy consortium in Spain. The company, Clean Hydrogen Producers (CHP) today signed an agreement with Grupo Ibereolica, outlining the planning, permitting and appraisal of CHP's Solar Water Cracker technology in Spain and Mexico. The CHP Solar Water Cracker is a system which concentrates sunlight, increasing the heat of a furnace to the point where it "cracks" a molecule of water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen can be sold or run through a fuel cell to generate energy. This energy can then be sold back to the grid. Hydrogen and electricity is produced at a cost - both financial and environmental - that is substantially below that of existing technologies.

* Trappings of Modern Life Bring an Early Death to Valley of the Immortals
For centuries Vilcabamba was a South American idyll. The valley boasted a lush and tranquil setting in remotest Ecuador, a year-round balmy climate, pristine mountain water, abundant fruits and grains. The inhabitants lived long and healthy lives. So long and so healthy that from the 50’s scientists has flocked here to study the hardy mountain farmers as astonishing specimens of longevity. The publicity gave Vilcabamba a nickname, the Valley of the Immortals, and put it on the map. Backpackers visited and so tourism wound its way into the valley, bringing paved roads, vehicles, hotels, restaurants and internet cafes. And then something else happened. The famed elders, the longevos whose vitality defied the ravages of time and inspired scientific papers and dreams of eternal youth, began to drop dead. All of those who were said to be over 110 have succumbed and there are few making it past 100. “We’re dying younger,” said Maria Cabrera, 91. “It’s not like before. We feel we’re getting weaker.”

* Kabbalah has become all the rage in Hollywood
Over the past few hundred years the mystical Kabbalah was only taught to rabbinical students over the age of forty because it was thought they required an advanced mental capacity to absorb the information. They believed kabalistic knowledge cannot be absorbed until the intellect has time to develop. Maybe you have notice that Kabbalah has become all the rage in Hollywood over the past few years. It also has taken hold of the pop icons such as Madonna, Brittany, Dolly and many more. Kabbalah has now become very commercialized considering you can purchase an assortment of books, godly trinkets and many other holy symbolic bobbles of Kabbalah at the shopping mall. Albert Einstein remarked, “I want to know the mind of God, everything else is mere details.” What Einstein meant was, everything that he discovered that was true, came from the mind of God because they were not details.....They were important scientific discoveries. Therefore we could claim Einstein was on a kabbalistic wave band of thought, although he may not have identified himself in that terminology (as far as we know). * Source: Yoga UK
* Fun Medicine Brazilian Style
Do you enjoy dancing, but do you find that most of the cardio dance DVDs out there are too complicated? Samba Party Workout 2: Brazilian "Carnival" Grooves, a 38-minute Samba-inspired cardio dance workout, taught by Brazilian dancer and instructor Vanessa Isaac from Razor Digital, offers just six simple steps in an add-on style so you get lots of repetition to learn the moves, and it's stylish without being complicated. Isaac is an encouraging instructor with a charming Brazilian accent living in Santa Barbara, CA, that never gets in the way of her cueing. This workout is paced a little faster than her Brazilian Rhythm Celebration, but the choreography is still easy enough for the majority of beginners. If you do have a problem with the steps, there's a separate instructional segment so you can go over them more slowly. Once you've learned the steps — and there's a good chance you will have them all down in one or two passes of this workout — you'll be able to let go and add your own flair. The background music is hypnotic, rhythmic percussion that invites you to groove. This is a fun cardio DVD for beginners, or for intermediates who are looking for a light workout between heavier days.

* Yoga Rock Stars
Source: L.A Times
Last Aug 23th the L.A Times has published an article entitled “Yoga Rock Stars” about the glam doings of some of yoga's most famous American teachers including Ducan Wong, Shiva Rea, Bryan Kest and Ana Forrest among others. Yoga's current popularity is fueling quite a boom for a select few. Sheva Rea, the reigning queen of L.A.'s saturated yoga scene, strikes a pose for Yogi Times photographer Jasper Johal. "Scoot back a little so that light catches your face," directs Johal, whose photo will grace a "Pose for a Cause" centerfold promoting the international charity Trees for the Future. "Beautiful, nice. Got it." Fellow yogi Duncan Wong and a group of DVD promoters cheer on Rea, just out of view of the snapping lens, as a glam-style fan lifts wisps of her long golden hair. "This brings up my inner rock star," Rea jokes. It's an offhand remark, but the truth in her statement is impossible to miss. The L.A. studio has the distinct look and feel of a celebrity fashion shoot. Riding a wave of unprecedented yoga mania — fueled in part by star practitioners such as Madonna — modern yogis' lives, especially in Los Angeles, increasingly resemble those of the celebrities they often teach.
* Opening the Sacred Heart with Surrender
Surrender is a mystical form of worshipping the divine. Surrender opens the Sacred Heart. Love and wisdom can then flow in and out of the heart with ease. When you surrender, you are giving yourself to the divine, Radiant Love and the vibrant wisdom that dwell within. Surrender frees one from the feelings and thoughts that limit or stop the flow of good. The divine, radiant self will lead you to the truth and you will walk in union with love and peace. Suddenly, you begin to realize the truth about your situation. Through surrender, new life is born within, new ideas flow from you, and inspiration flows through you. Life becomes magical, and you embrace its miracles. When you surrender, the gateway to resurrection opens. You begin to surrender the limited thoughts and painful feelings of the past. This leads to a clearer, freer energy of love. Truth can replace the limitation and the world can open in many new ways. A new life is born within. This is resurrection. The process of resurrection is ongoing. The opportunity to rise to the next level of energy and consciousness is always available. Once you begin to understand the concept and practice of surrender, life takes on sweetness and freshness, and a glow of love emanates from you.

* O que desejam os seres humanos? A resposta seria a felicidade

* The Hidden Language of Hatha Yoga: Out Of The Mud & Into The Light
by Swami Lalitananda / AscentMagazine.com
Life isn't always calm, so it's nice to take a moment, slow down, breathe and just sit. Frazzled nerve endings get renewed. Breath evens out and nothing seems quite as pressing. This is the gift of the Lotus, the pose of meditation. From a sitting position, rest the mind, feed the soul (the inner Light, the spirit, the essence, the Buddha nature, Christ consciousness … or whatever you call that invisible power that germinates the desire to know and connect, that propels movement toward beauty and unfolding). As I sit observing body and mind, I imagine a lotus rooted in rich mud, growing through murky pond water to flower in a diffuse freedom of air and sunlight. My mind, too, moves from the gross to the subtle. It feeds off the ground of daily experience, wanders through the fluidity of its interpretations, and occasionally breaks through to openness and receptivity as thoughts release with breath. Shrinking in self-importance, "I" becomes a minuscule speck in an interdependent universe. A warm glow arises.
* The Solar Guerrilla Manifesto
by Robbie Harris / Conscious Choice Magazine (consciouschoice.com)
The manifesto appeared in Home Power magazine, where it was attributed to an anonymous source. It reads: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all energy is freely and democratically provided by Nature, that utilities both public and private have no monopoly on the production and distribution of energy, that this century's monopolization of energy by utilities threatens the health of our environment and the very life of our planet. We, the Solar Guerrillas of this planet, therefore resolve to place energy made from sunshine, wind, and falling water on this planet's utility grids with or without permission from utilities or governments. We resolve to share this energy with our neighbors without regard for financial compensation. We further resolve that our renewable energy systems will be safe and will not harm utility workers, our neighbors, or our environment. Signed, “Solar Guerrillas of Planet Earth." The movement eventually spread nationwide through word-of-mouth in the renewable energy community, although the exact number of Solar Guerrillas is hard to determine and their founders remain anonymous.

* Massage Therapists Fight Medicare Exclusion
by Laurel Chesky / Massage Magazine (massagemag.com)
A coalition of health-care providers, including massage therapists, is stepping up efforts to overturn a ruling limiting federal reimbursement for prescribed therapy. The Coalition to Preserve Patient Access to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service — a coalition of 23 medical organizations, including the American Medical Massage Association (AMMA) — is working to foster public support and coax Congress into reversing a controversial Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) ruling. In 2004 CMS decided to limit reimbursement to physicians who bill Medicare for therapy services performed by other than physical and occupational therapists and speech pathologists — effectively cutting off massage therapists, vision specialists, athletic trainers and exercise physiologists. The rule went into effect in July 2005
* Top 15 Reasons to Avoid Low Carb, High Protein Diets
by Greg Landry, M.S. / HumanHealing.com
Eating too much fat is just not healthy. I know you've heard of people whose blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides have decreased while on a low carb, high protein diet. This often happens with weight loss, but it doesn't continue when you're on a diet high in fat. There are literally reams of research over decades that clearly indicates that an increase in consumption of animal products and/or saturated fat leads to increased incidence of heart disease, strokes, gall stones, kidney stones, arthritic symptoms, certain cancers, etc. Fat is certainly necessary, and desirable in your diet, but they should be mostly healthy fats and in moderation. Manufactured / synthetic "low fat" foods with lots of added sugar are not the answer. Neither are manufactured / synthetic "low carb" foods with artificial sweeteners or added fat. By the way, use of artificial sweeteners has never been shown to aid in weight loss and they may pose health problems
* Prayer through Ceremonial Spiritual Dancing
By Cheryl Braswell / InnerChange Magazine (innerchangemag.com)
Ceremonial dances are a form of prayer. These dances are similar to the ancient, traditional dances of indigenous people, but are created for ALL people on the planet at this point in time. When one feels the call to dance, the reason to engage in this form of prayer may not be known until after the ceremony has occurred. Others know right away what they want to pray for, such as world peace, the environment, thanksgiving, personal healing or healing for another. When we dance, we represent a physical manifestation of our prayer. By fasting, we become containers being emptied and refilled with Spiritual Light and heightened awareness. Truly, our physical bodies are all we have to call our own. To give of our bodies by dancing and fasting, we are making the ultimate sacrifice in order to obtain spiritual awareness, peace and healing.
* Awakening Kundalini by Swami Rama / Himalayan Institute
Source: by region network
The system of yoga has developed many techniques to help students awaken the dormant force of kundalini. An authentic teacher chooses the most appropriate method to help a student to awaken the force within. This method must be carefully selected according to the individual student's abilities, tendencies, and level of attainment. However, not all those who claim to be teachers have the level of realization required to be able to guide students systematically, so students should be careful in selecting a teacher. The sacred and advanced practices of kundalini yoga have been popularly distorted and misrepresented, particularly by teachers who claim to be able to raise this energy by their presence or touch. Then, rather than raising the students level of consciousness, what is raised is the students level of emotional or imaginative experience, such as those created by suggestion or hypnosis. This is not at all the path of spiritual enfoldment. In order to attain spiritual enfoldment and the awakening of kundalini, the sincere student must first prepare himself or herself on all levels. This cannot be done by another, but only by the genuine and motivated student. First, the physical body needs to be purified and strengthened, especially through practices such as hatha yoga, breathing exercises, and maintaining a correct diet. Even on the mere physical level, a sudden increase and release of kundalini energy can cause disturbances or imbalance.
* Ancient Ayurvedic Herb Gains New Medical Respect as Diabetes Treatment
by Len Strazewski / ConsciousChoice.com
After 1,000 years of use in ethnic medicine, an herbal treatment for diabetes is being taken seriously by medical researchers. It is the latest in a series of new alternatives for the widespread metabolic disease. Gymnema sylvestre, an herb used in Ayurveda, the traditional Hindi medical system of India, has been available in the United States under several brand names. In addition, it has been a component of supplement mixes targeted to diabetics. However, recently completed medical studies indicate that the herb, derived from a climbing plant in central and southern India, promotes glucose metabolism and helps diabetics resist sugar cravings. In the Ayurvedic tradition, users place the herb leaves, or an herbal tablet, under the tongue for a minute or two, which neutralizes the ability to taste sweetness. Then the herb is swallowed to help reduce "sweet urine," a symptom of too much sugar in the blood which passes to the urine.
* Discernment
By Sylvia Silk * Soul Brasil collaborator writer
In a world containing infinite possibilities, why do we choose to attach to only one? And then, if that one possibility is not forthcoming, we get very upset! We can actually make ourselves ill when we don’t get the one possibility we are fixated on. Would we not be better served to not attach to any outcome but look forward with eager anticipation to the one possibility that Life/ Love/ Joy is sending to us? What if we were open enough to receive and loving accept the possibility that did come to us? To focus all our energy into fear, worry, anxiety of a future outcome we do not want, we unknowingly close the door to the good that is coming to us. We divert our energy into manifesting what we don’t want. To manifest what we do want, we have to sharpen up our discerning skills. One response to that idea is: “Oh, no I couldn’t do that. I might get an outcome I wouldn’t like. So I’ll fret and worry about all the outcomes that I could get and don’t want, and pray that I don’t manifest any of them.” This is an example of fear-based thinking. Fear-based thoughts disappoint and depress us.
A love-based thought would respond like an expectant child on Christmas eve, “I wonder what wonderfulness is coming to me. I wonder what Santa/ God/ Love is bringing to me.” I get all excited and happy just thinking about the good that wants to be delivered to me. I walk through a bookstore and a book title catches my eye. It is a book written by Byron Katie, the originator of The Work, called Loving What Is. That’s what a love-based thought settles on: it loves what is and what is coming. It is a non-stressful, exciting way to think. Discernment is an attribute of one who has learned to tell the difference between a fear-based thought and a love-based thought, and a master is one who chooses the love-based thought. Practice choosing love-based thoughts over fear-based one…

* We Must Plant Seeds of Solidarity
by Raimundo Delgado
To dream and pray is not enough. We have to fight in order for justice, peace and solidarity to exist in the world -- our country. A revolution exists until we find the formula to feed all children. To pay a human being, cents per hour in Asia, Africa and Latin America is slavery. While slavery exists, we are all slaves. Everyone has the right to a dignified life with his / her family. Borders maintain people in jail. The civilization history teaching us that only through revolutions we will reach the solidarity that humanity demands. There is freedom when there is justice and opportunity for all. And, without a metamorphoses in our way of thinking, society will continue to live in anguish, poverty, solitude and despair. How can there be justice when jobs go looking for cheap labor imprisoned by borders and imperialist regimes that control the world's economy? We must plant seeds of solidarity that grow in forests where a sea of orchids flourishes.
.* Super Greens
from DownToEarth.org
Wheat grass and micro algae consumption throughout the world, especially in western countries, has sky rocketed in the recent years. The dietary use of these substances, although, is nothing new. It has been discovered that in both South America and Africa cereal grasses such as wheat grass and micro algae have been used internally, for nutrition, and externally as an antiseptic healing salve. Today, we generally use these substances as a supplement to improve our health and vitality. Individuals that use them regularly enthusiastically testify to their amazing healing properties. Micro algae are aquatic living organisms. These plants are very small and are measured in microns (millionths of a meter). Spirulina is a species of micro algae. It is blue green in color and spiral shaped. In these tiny plans are found the highest levels of chlorophyll, protein, beta-carotene and nucleic, more so than any other plant or animal food. Because Spirulina is a plant and can be cultivated in a controlled environment their producers can alter the mineral content of their environment, which in turn affects the mineral content of the product. In other words, depending on the environment, Spirulina can also be an excellent source of essential minerals.
The Yoga of Sound
By Russill Paul / DragonflyReview.com
During the past twenty years, yoga and music—two powerful approaches to optimal health—have garnered enormous credibility in the western world. Health, we are fast realizing, is not simply the absence of disease: it is a condition of soul that invigorates our being, enabling us to derive the most from life. The yoga of sound is a highly specialized yogic system and methodology that brings together universal healing principles found in yoga and music into a unified approach. Requiring neither the extreme flexibility of yoga postures, nor the complexities of music, the yoga of sound combines the best of both these worlds. Largely unknown in the West, yet developing alongside the popular form of hatha yoga that has swept the world, the yoga of sound is a broad term for a 3500-year-old spiritual system that we can effectively use today to reduce stress, develop our health, and realize spiritual awakenings leading to enlightenment.
